McPherson college student critical after apparent beating, police say

McPHERSON, Kan. (KAKE) - Authorities are investigating after a central Kansas college student was apparently beaten early Friday morning.
McPherson County deputies responded just before 4 a.m. to a possible vehicle rollover on U.S. 56 near 19th Avenue. McPherson Police Chief Mikel Golden said in a release that the deputies arrived to find a vehicle off the roadway. The driver, an 18-year-old male college student in McPherson, was also found in the area.
The student had injuries, which he said were caused by an unknown person. No one else was found in the area at that time.
Chief Golden said EMS took the teen to local hospital and he was later flown to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. The extent of his injuries were unknown, Golden said, and he was last listed in critical condition.
"Preliminary investigation indicates the incident may have originated at the college in McPherson," Golden said. "Further investigation continues by the McPherson Police Department, who has requested assistance from the Kansas Bureau of Investigations [sic]."
