WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Police have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a 69-year-old man at a south Wichita apartment complex on Wednesday. 

Sedgwick County Jail records show 36-year-old Jeremy Miles was booked early Thursday morning for first-degree murder, aggravated robbery and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon in connection to the death of James Gibson. He was jailed for assault and possession of marijuana in another case, as well as a parole violation. 

The shooting happened at around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Seneca Place Apartments in the 2100 block of South Seneca. Police spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said officers arrived to find Gibson in one of the apartments. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

"It's devastating to see violent crimes that disregard the value of human life and their impact on the community, Officer Gupilan said in a previous release. 

Miles appeared in court on Tuesday September 5, and was charged with one count of murder in the first degree and unknown statute felony. Bond has been set at $500,000 and Miles will next appear in court at 10:30 a.m. on September 18, 2023.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Miles is on parole for convictions of aggravated robbery, attempted aggravated robbery and criminal possession of a firearm by a felon. He was last release from prison on August 23, exactly a week before the shooting.
