WINFIELD, Kan. (KAKE) - The Husky Liners factory in Winfield has been around for over 30 years but on June 19, the company's is moving locations to Georgia.

The company recently laid off approximately 80 employees in Winfield and 25 more in Park City, KS. The car parts company who makes custom-fit floor liners has been a huge part of the small city's industry.

According to City Manager Taggart Wall, Cowley County Economic Development is working closely with Husky Liners human resource department to aid in local workforce transition and training for affected employees.

Hall said the goal is to provide the necessary resources for these employees to help them find gainful employment within the county.

For some, the transition has already begun. Winfield resident Diane McCulley said,

"I work for the school district and with Husky Liner closing, we were able to hire some of their office staff and so forth into the school district so that was a positive," said Winfield resident Diane McCulley.

Wall said they are looking at the facility and hoping to fill it with new jobs and move in the direction of a thriving local economy.
