WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - The Wichita school board has named Kelly Bielefeld USD 259's new superintendent. 

The BOE made the announcement during a special session on Friday. Bielefeld currently serves and USD 259′s executive director of College and Career Readiness. He's been with the district since 2020.

The board's vote was unanimous and Bielefeld will start the top job on July 1, pending contract approval. He started his career as teacher at Goddard High School, worked as an administrator in Derby and Clearwater before moving to Wichita Public Schools.

Bielefeld replaces Dr. Alicia Thompson who announced her retirement last year. The BOE hired the Ray & Associates firm to help in its search.
