South Wichita vacant house catches fire
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - The WFD responded to a fire early Friday morning at a vacant house in the 900 block of south Broadway.
The Wichita Fire Department said they were called to the scene shortly after 5 a.m. and saw smoke and flames coming from the second floor. Firefighters went in to begin extinguishing the fire but were advised to leave due to the stability of the house.
After the fire was under control, the Fire Investigations Unit began investigating and determined the fire originated on the 2nd floor and extended to the roof.
Authorities say the vacant house was frequented by squatters looking for shelter.
The investigation is ongoing and no injuries have been reported.
