Wellington officer fatally shoots suspect armed with knife, KBI says
Wellington, Kan. (KAKE) - An officer involved shooting that took place on Saturday night is being investigated by the KBI.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation say that just before 10:30 p.m. police responded to a disturbance at 1111 E 7th St. in Wellington. When they arrived at the residence, they were told that 30-year-old Harley Bagby was inside damaging the property.
When officers entered the house they claim that Bagby came out of the bedroom with a knife and did not comply with officers commands. Bagby then moved towards the officers with a knife and one of them fired, hitting Bagby multiple times.
Cecil Janney lives in the home across the street from Bagby.
“I heard what assumed was gunshots. It seemed like there was three or four of them. That's when I got up to go see what was going on. It surprised me. I didn't know what was going on with him or anything. He just seemed like a good guy and everything. Him and his girlfriend. You never know about people I guess,” said Janney.
Harley Bagby was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
