WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Wichita State basketball and head coach Isaac Brown took a lot of criticism after the team's home loss to Alcorn State last week. In those cases, it's always about how a team responds and the Shockers did in a big way tonight taking down Richmond on the road 56-53.

Junior guard Jaykwon Walton poured in 20 points while shooting 6-13 from the field. Senior Craig Porter Jr did a little bit of everything with 11 points, five steals, nine rebounds and three assists. And more importantly than any individual statistic, the Shockers bent but never broke.

Wichita took a nine-point lead into halftime but the Spiders really battled back around the 13-minute mark to close the deficit and eventually take the lead.

WSU handled the blows from Richmond, stuck to its game and eventually regained the lead and never lost it down the stretch.

Wichita State travels to Kansas City next for the Hall of Fame Classic at the T-Mobile Center. They'll play back-to-back days on Monday and Tuesday, starting with Grand Canyon on Monday at 2 p.m.
