Kansas Senate candidate shows support for 'Respect for Marriage Act'
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - As Americans wait to see what the United States Senate will do with the "Respect for Marriage Act," one United States Senate candidate from Kansas is putting his full support behind it.
The act would put same-sex marriage into federal law... ensuring it could survive any future Supreme Court rulings reconsidering rights based on the right to privacy, like Roe v Wade.
Democrat Michael Soetaert is the first openly gay Kansan to run for the United States Senate. In a Twitter statement today he came out in full support of passing the respect for marriage act immediately.... telling Kake news reporter Pilar Pedraza it's about dignity, respect and equality for all.
