WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – Wichita police are searching for a thief who stole a vehicle from a Walmart parking lot with an 11-month-old child in the backseat. 

According to Wichita police at approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday, two off duty officers were working at a business in the 500 block of east Pawnee. They were alerted that a sliver Pontiac was stolen from the Walmart parking lot with an 11-month-old child in the backseat.

Officers began circulating the area and located both the vehicle and the child, who was unharmed, in the 1400 block of south Emporia.

Police were searching for a suspect described as being a white male in his 50s, wearing blue jeans and a checkered flannel shirt, has brown/blonde hair and possibly has a beard. He was last seen heading south in the area of 1400 South Emporia and 1400 South Topeka. Police believed the individual is on foot.

Police are asking those in the area to check their security camera footage and anyone with information is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
