Wichita police hope someone will come forward after an armed robbery in south Wichita.

Security video shows a man walk into the Dollar Tree at Pawnee and George Washington Boulevard just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, February 12th.

Police say he pretended to be shopping, and once all the other customers left, he pulled a gun and confronted the clerk.

"He produced a firearm and demanded money from the register,” said Officer Trevor Macy. “Then he demanded money from the safe as well."

Shoppers who live nearby now feel uneasy.

"It's frightening to know these things are happening so close to home,” said Madison Green. “The crime rate going up around you makes you feel unsafe in your own area."

Police say the robber stole cash and ran from the store.

Investigators say while the security video isn't that clear, someone might know something that will help solve the crime.

"It's rare for these things to occur, and the suspect not tell someone about it,” said Macy. ”They're going to go brag about it. They're going to go open their mouth somewhere."

Neighbors like Green say they will be more cautious now, especially until the thief is caught.

“Sometimes it's scary late at night,” she said. “People are lurking around. I go in the afternoon when it seems to be less busy."
