WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A Wichita man with several prior DUI convictions has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for a drunken driving crash that killed a 56-year-old woman in 2018.

Sedgwick County District Court Judge David Dahl sentenced 36-year-old Monty Carpenter Jr. to 76 months. He pleaded guilty in April to involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence.

The crash happened the afternoon of September 3, 2018 at 31st Street South and McLean. Marsha Oglesby was heading east on 31st Street when Carpenter ran a red light and his minivan struck Oglesby's car.

After the crash, the DA's office said Carpenter ran from the scene and hid under a trailer. An officer saw Carpenter and arrested him.

Court records show Carpenter has been convicted of drunk driving three times before, the most recent being in 2011. When he's released from prison, he'll have to serve 36 months of post-release supervision and pay over $7,600 in restitution in $150 monthly installments.
