ARCADIA, Kan. (KAKE) - Authorities say the person of interest in connection to a suspicious death investigation in southeast Kansas has been arrested.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Crawford County Sheriff's Office announced in a news release on Tuesday that 37-year-old Nicholas Carrillo was arrested after they found the body of a Kansas City, Missouri man on the property he was at. 

Just before midnight on Wednesday, Jan. 13, Crawford County Sheriff's deputies received a tip indicating that  a body could be found in the 100 block of S. Kansas in Arcadia. Authorities went to the address and met Carrillo who gave them permission to look around the property.

While searching, the deputies discovered a deceased body in the backyard. Officials say Carrillo fled the area on foot. 

At approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, the KBI was asked to assist. Special agents and the Crime Scene Response Team responded. 

Officials say Carrillo was located Friday evening in Arcadia. Just after 10 p.m. Carrillo was booked into the Crawford County Jail on suspicion of criminal desecration of a body; possession of opiates, opium, narcotic drugs or certain stimulants; possession of drug paraphernalia and interference with law enforcement. At the time of the release, Carrillo was being held on a $15,000 bond. 

The deceased is a man who was reported missing to the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. Investigators believe the death occurred in Kansas City, Missouri and will conduct further investigation into the man's death.

Authorities are asking for the public's help in locating a person of interest in connection to a death investigation in southeast Kansas. 

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Crawford County Sheriff's Office are searching for 37-year-old Nicholas Adam Carrillo. He stands 6-foot-1, weighs about 275 pounds and has brown eyes and brown hair. 

Carrillo was last seen at around midnight Wednesday in the 100 block of South Kansas in Arcadia. The KBI says he fled the area on foot and was wearing a white sleeveless t-shirt and black sweatpants.

The KBI and sheriff's office have not yet released additional details in the investigation.

Anyone who sees Carrillo or has information on his whereabouts is asked to immediately call the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME, or the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office at 620-724-8274.
