(KAKE) - Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph, Dear Neighbor Ministries is a neighborhood-based organization serving the less fortunate in our community, serving hundreds of people every month with their food pantry.

“We have a food pantry that is open to everybody. And people can visit it once every thirty days,” said Mariem Martinez of Dear Neighbor.

Since the pandemic began, they’ve seen an increase in people coming to the pantry. Though that visit looks different than before.

“We have had to close our lobbies, so we are utilizing a drive-up method at the moment. So people drive up, we get their information, and prepare their food and take it out to them,” said Martinez.

If you are able to help Dear Neighbor help more neighbors, they are asking for personal care items or monetary donations, which can be made on their website dearneighbor.org.

KAKE News and the DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers are honored to present Dear Neighbor Ministries with a $500 check as this week’s “Wins for Kansas” recipient.

“Thank you DeVaughn James and KAKE for the donation to Dear Neighbor Ministries. We’ll utilize it to purchase items for our food pantry,” said Martinez.
