KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP/KAKE) — Crews have recovered the body of an 11-year-old girl who drowned in the Kansas River over the weekend. 

Kansas City, Kansas police said the body of Rebecca Van Sui Par was found Monday after a boater spotted a body along the river's shoreline. Her body was recovered at around 6:15 p.m.

Crews had been searching for her since Saturday.

Rebecca and her family were on a stretch of land near the river and I-435 when their beach ball went into the water. Rebecca went in to get it was caught in the undertow. 

Assistant Fire Chief Scott Hawley said an adult and two other minors tried to save Rebecca but ended up also having to be rescued.

Emergency crews from Kansas City, Kansas, continued over the weekend to search the Kansas River for an 11-year-old girl who went missing in its waters and is presumed to have drowned.

Several boats and at least 10 firefighters searched the river Sunday, a day after witnesses said the Rebecca Van Sui Par was pulled under the water while trying to retrieve a beach ball, the Kansas City Star reported.

A family had been playing with the ball near a sand bar on the river near Interstate 435 and Woodend Avenue when the incident happened, officials said. An adult and two other minors tried to save the girl, but ended up also having to be rescued, Assistant Fire Chief Scott Hawley said.
