EL DORADO, Kan. (KAKE) - One lucky person has won the $1 million Powerball ticket in Kansas Wednesday, according to the Kansas Lottery.

Earlier this month, the Kansas Lottery sent out a message to remind players to check their tickets, as a $1 million Powerball ticket was getting closer and closer to expiring. The message was received and the ticket was claimed on Wednesday, July 10 in Topeka, KS Lottery said.

"The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, said they kept the ticket in a safe place but had to wait to make the claim for personal reasons," Cory Thone, with the Kansas Lottery, said in a release. "They were relieved and excited to finally be claiming their prize!"

The ticket was sold at True Lies LLC in El Dorado, and the retailer is eligible for up to a $1,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
