GEARY COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) - Authorities say 30,000 pounds of french fries when up in flames when a semitrailer caught fire in northeast Kansas early Tuesday morning. 

Geary County deputies and firefighters responded at around 1:40 a.m. to the fire on Interstate 70 just east of Milford Lake. The sheriff's office said the semi was heading east when the driver noticed the truck began to lock in the rear. He pulled off the roadway and saw his rear tires had caught fire.

The driver was not hurt, but the trailer was destroyed. According to Fire Chief Garry Berges, the trailer contained 30,000 pounds worth of french fries. Loss was estimated at $80,000.
