EAGLE PASS, Texas (KAKE) - A South Texas family of five was killed in a crash last week when a FedEx box truck veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into their SUV.

The crash happened Tuesday night on U.S. 57 about nine miles east of Eagle Pass. The Texas Highway Patrol said the eastbound FedEx box truck went left of center and crashed head-on into a westbound Hyundai Santa Fe.

Four adults in the SUV died at the scene. They were identified as Jose Martinez, 71, Noemi Jimenez Martinez, 61, Joanna Martinez, 34 and Samantha Martinez, 25. The youngest victim in the SUV, a 10-year-old girl, died on the way to the hospital. They were from Eagle Pass.

The driver of the FedEx truck was transported to the hospital. It's unknown if that person will face charges, KENS reports.

"Our thoughts are with all of those involved in this tragic accident," FedEx said in a statement to the local CBS affiliate. "We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends who are mourning the loss of loved ones. Safety is our highest priority, and we are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities at this time."
