CHANUTE, Kan. (KAKE) - A 36-year-old man has died after his car crashed along a southeast Kansas highway on Thursday.

The accident happened at around 3:10 a.m. on U.S. 59 about a mile south of K-39 in Neosho County. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports Timothy VanLeeuwen, of Savonburg, was heading south when his Chevy Malibu went left of center and left the roadway.

The car came to rest at the bottom of a ditch ravine, and VanLeeuwen was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

"Heaven gained one magnificent man today," Tim's wife Heather said on their family farm Facebook page. "I love you babe! Until we meet again I will be strong and kick ass raising our boys in your honor!!"

It's unclear what caused VanLeeuwen's car to go off the road. The patrol's online crash log states he was wearing a seat belt.
