WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Wichita police say a man was taken to the hospital with critical injuries after a domestic violence call that led to an officer shooting a man while trying to make an arrest.

The Wichita Police Department said officers responded to a home in the 1600 block of North Wood, near 13th and Tyler, around 10 p.m. for a domestic violence report. A 42-year-old suspect left the house before officers arrived but came back later that night. Once the man had returned, a family member snuck out of the house and called 911.

Officers returned around to the house at 11 p.m. and attempted to arrest the man who backed away from the officers and pulled out a gun.

One officer fired three shots, each one hitting the suspect who was then taken to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Once the suspect is released from the hospital, he will be placed under arrest and booked into jail.
