WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Some local Wichita moms enjoyed an early Mother’s Day filled with shopping and pampering all while helping to support women who are victims of domestic violence.

The Wichita Boathouse transformed into a candy store for women. There were boutiques, 2 Beatz Boutique and K.Lane’s & Co. to name a couple. There were pampering spa stations offering hair styling, makeup, massage and more.

The real beauty of the event on Saturday was women supporting women.

"We feel very strongly about women lifting other women up so anytime that we can help support something that's going to help another woman especially if she's struggling, that's something that we want to exemplify for our children," said Cole Reicherd who drove to Wichita from Hill City, Kansas to enjoy some relaxation with her friend.

The event was called 'Celebrating You.'

Vendors came together offering different services to the community.  All of the donations for the services go toward Harbor House Catholic Charities to help women who are victims of domestic violence.

Event organizer Bobbie Lane said, “Special people to me have used the organization and it, it was something that it, it helped them in a time that they felt hopeless and so for me, that's extremely important."

Reports show 72 percent of murder-suicides involve intimate partners and 94 percent are women but some are men too.

"I think it's really important to help victims of domestic violence no matter the gender. These events focus more on women which is awesome but I just want to point out that boys and men can also be victims," said Christine Atkins.

The event also included food trucks and raffles for the different prizes.
