HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KAKE) - An inmate was found unresponsive in his cell and rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Hutchinson Correctional Facility said that on Friday afternoon, 49-year-old Scott Wood was found unresponsive in his cell. Life saving measures were taken but he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Wood was serving a 50 month sentence for drug possession and aggravated escape committed in Sedgwick County. He has prior convictions of indecent liberties with a child, four counts of theft, burglary, aggravated escape and flee/elude law enforcement. 

The cause of death is pending an autopsy.

The Kansas Department of Corrections and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are investigating the death.
