UPDATE 7 P.M. SATURDAY: The Kansas Department of Transportation has reopened both directions of I-70 in northwest Kansas. The roadway was previously closed because of high winds, reduced visibility and vehicle crashes.

Motorists should continue to use caution and be alert for high winds and rapidly changing visibility.

NORTON, Kan. (KAKE) - The Kansas Department of Transportation has closed eastbound I-70 between Oakley and Hays because of high winds, low visibility and vehicle crashes blocking the roadway.

Motorists traveling through northwest Kansas are urged to use caution and delay travel if possible. Those currently on the roadways should find shelter at a safe location until conditions improve.

The westbound lanes between Hays and WaKeeney are also closed.

KDOT does not have an estimated time for reopening.
