WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Several Sedgwick County Jail inmates overdosed and were transported to the hospital on Tuesday, the sheriff said.

Around 12:30 p.m., the sheriff's office said the four inmates experienced medical emergencies in Pod 19 of the jail. The substance that was ingested by the inmates is unconfirmed, but is believed to contain an opiate.

A dispatch supervisor said that additional deputies were requested at the jail and the inmates were transported. Sheriff Jeff Easter tells KAKE News that Narcan was administered to the inmates and that the inmates are expected to survive. An investigation is ongoing.

The jail is located at 141 West Elm in Wichita.
