CHEROKEE, Kan. (KAKE) - Authorities say a 74-year-old man has died following a crash along a southeast Kansas Highway.

The accident happened at around 3:40 p.m. Monday on K-7 north of Cherokee. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a Chevy Blazer backed out of a private drive on the east side of the roadway and into the path of a southbound GMC truck.

The 64-year-old man driving the GMC swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision but struck the left front corner of the Chevy, which overturned.

The driver of the Chevy, Terry Harper of Frontenac, died at the scene. The patrol's online crash log states he was not wearing a seat belt.

The other driver was not hurt.
