WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A man has been charged with multiple counts of criminally discharging a firearm and assault for shooting at cars as they drove by on I-235.

The Wichita Police Department says it got a call just before 2 a.m. on Friday from someone saying he'd been shot at while driving on I-235 near Zoo Boulevard.

"We have a total of three victims. No one was injured from being shot at," said Lt. Matt Lang with the Wichita Police Department.

Kamil Lweno was arrested at the scene and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.

On Tuesday, Lweno appeared in court and was charged with three counts of criminal discharge of a firearm; recklessly at an occupied vehicle, aggravated assault with the use of a deadly weapon and criminal damage to property.

Bond has been set at $500 thousand and Lweno will next appear in court on April 1, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.

In a redacted affidavit, witnesses told police they saw a man firing shot from the highway and median. While searching for the gunman, a police sergeant heard a knock on his rear window and saw a man matching the description of the gunman who was arrested.
