WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A Wichita man who plead guilty to stealing a car with two young children inside will be spending the next nearly 7 years behind bars.

On November 7, 2022, Tyler Kirkhart, then 31, stole a car from a woman who was putting air in her tires at the QuikTrip at 31st Street South and Seneca. Her 3-year-old daughter and infant son were in car seats in the back. Police later found the car abandoned a short time later, with the children still inside and unharmed. Kirkhart was arrested that night. 

In August 2023, Kirkhart plead quilty to two counts of aggravated child endangerment and one count of theft.

Kirkhart received 15 months for the first count of aggravated endangering a child, and 7 months for the second count of the same crime.  He was also sentenced to 7 months for one count of felony theft. Previous parole violations were added for a total of 83 months.
