WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A man who stole an SUV with a 6-year-old girl inside from a north Wichita parking lot and fled to Oklahoma has been sentenced to just under five years in prison.

Sedgwick County Judge Eric Williams on Monday sentenced 35-year-old Benjamin Brady to 58 months. He previously pleaded guilty to attempted kidnapping and felony theft.

The incident happened the evening of November 20, 2022. Wichita police said the girl was in her father's SUV in a parking lot near 21st and Amidon when Brady stole it. The girl's father was in the store when she was taken.

License plate reader technology revealed the SUV entered the Kansas Turnpike and headed south. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol located and stopped the SUV about 22 miles south of the state line. The girl was not hurt.
