WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Kylee Hodges has been charged with the first-degree murder of her son Claude Hodges after police found her in her apartment with a gun and the dead body of her son.

Claude's father had called for a welfare check when Kylee did not show up for a custody exchange and wouldn't answer her phone. Police say that when they arrived, they found Kylee who pointed a gun at officers who shot and injured her.

"We text, we called her. Never responded. So we sent a welfare check to their apartment to see what's up and why."

Claude Hodges Sr. wouldn't speculate on why he thinks his ex-wife might have killed their son, he would only say he doesn't want to give the enemy any glory right now.

Hodges, Sr. says his son was a freshman at Wichita Northwest, and a member on the varsity wrestling team. He, the family and the entire wrestling team now have 'In Memory of Claude Hodges' t-shirts in memory of the boy who made friends easily, lit up every room he walked into, and left an impression that no one will ever forget.

Kylee Hodges recovered from the gunshot wound in the hospital and on Tuesday was charged with first-degree murder. Bond has been set at $1,500,000.
