Wichita man sentenced for hit-and-run death of Kurt Krueger
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A Wichita man has been sentenced to nearly 9 years in prison for the hit-and-run death of a 49-year-old man in 2022 and a drug charge.
The Sedgwick County district attorney's office said Judge Bruce Brown on Wednesday sentenced 32-year-old Latrell Thompson to 106 months, 46 for leaving the scene of an accident and 60 for cultivation of marijuana. He was also ordered to pay restitution of $52,000 to the insurance company and $9,825.88 for the remainder of Kurt Krueger's funeral costs.
Thompson pleaded guilty in November 2023.
Officers responded early on the morning of May 1, 2022 to the report of a man in the roadway in the 7900 block of West Cottontail, which is northeast of Bishop Carroll Catholic High School. Krueger was found unconscious and died at the scene.
Police said Krueger was walking in his neighborhood about 20 to 30 minutes before his body was found. Investigators said he was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene.
