COWLEY COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) - The Cowley County Sheriff's Office says the body of missing 69-year-old Janet Spoon has been found in a pond.

Spoon had been missing since Friday, December 22. The sheriff's office said she last seen by a family friend and left the friend's home that night.

On Saturday, deputies responded to the report of a vehicle in a field in the area of 121st Rd and U.S. 160. It is believed Janet's vehicle had become disabled and she left the area on foot.

On Christmas Day, the sheriff's office was informed that a body had been discovered in a pond behind Gottlob Lawn and Landscape, which is just east of Winfield. Authorities identified the body as that of Spoon. 

The investigation is ongoing pending an autopsy.
