WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A 42-year-old Wichita man has been charged with murder in the death of a 23-year-old woman at an apartment on the city's northeast side.

Larry Ingram made his first court appearance Wednesday and was officially charged with second-degree murder and violating a protective order. He remains jailed on $1 million bond ahead of his next court date on January 10.

Officers responded at around 12:40 a.m. Thursday, December 21 to a shooting call at Cross Creek Apartments and Townhomes in the 7700 block of East 32nd Street North. WPD spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said officers arrived to find Deniq Ingram with a gunshot wound to her upper torso.

Deniq, of Wichita, was taken to the hospital where medical personnel pronounced her dead. Officers arrested Larry Ingram at the scene.

Police said last week that investigators were working to determine what led up to the shooting. Additional case details have not been released, but WPD did offer some resources for survivors of domestic violence.

"Domestic violence is not a private matter; it's a crime, and it's everyone's concern," the release said. "If you are a survivor of domestic violence, it is crucial to know that you are not alone, and support is available. There are organizations and services dedicated to helping individuals in need."
