ANDOVER, Kan. (KAKE) - A suburban Wichita school district says a bank processing error delayed direct deposits into staff accounts on Wednesday.

Andover USD 385 said it was aware of the error on Equity Bank's end. Several staff members either called or emailed KAKE News On Your Side about the issue.

"We have received notification that the November 15, 2023 direct deposit payroll ACH has been successfully processed by Equity Bank and remitted to all employees' financial institutions," Andover Public Schools said in an email to staff Wednesday morning. "The district has been informed that employees should start seeing deposits at various times today depending on their financial institutions ACH posting schedule. Thank you again for your patience."

A previous statement said the school board and district leaders have let the bank know that the payroll delay is unacceptable.

"Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience. It is also important for you to know that if you incur any fees as a result of the payment being deposited this afternoon rather than this morning, you will be reimbursed accordingly."

Equity Bank released the following statement Wednesday afternoon:

"Equity Bank would like to address a now resolved situation involving our customer, Andover Public Schools.

"Most importantly, we are pleased to report that teachers and school district staff received their pay today on their regularly scheduled pay period, as they have for the entirety of Equity’s relationship with the school district.

"Equity Bank’s procedures for processing our customers’ payroll have not changed.

"This week, Equity Bank noticed an issue with the recent payroll file submitted by Andover Public Schools, which did not allow the file to be processed. Equity Bank made consistent and repeated attempts to contact the school district to remedy this, but unfortunately, a corrected file was not received by the bank in time for the file to be processed in a timely manner.

"After working with the school district every step of the way and receiving the proper approval, Equity Bank pushed through a same-day payroll process to make sure this went through, while notifying the proper authorities.

"We were happy to work with the school district on a smooth resolution.

"Community banking is all about relationships. It is why Community Focus is one of our main core values. To that end, Equity Bank’s relationship with Andover Public Schools is of the utmost importance to us."
