MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho (KAKE) - An 8-year-old girl and her family dog were killed just over a week ago when a tree fell on a tent on a family camping trip in southwest Idaho.
The incident Saturday, September 9 near Mountain Home in the Boise National Forest. KIVI reports the girl, identified as Cadence Eastin, was camping with her parents and siblings when a large cottonwood tree fell, killing the girl and the dog.
The Elmore County Sheriff's Office said the family was camping in an area that had been burned in wildfires, leaving scorched trees that eroded and became unstable. It's unknown what caused the tree to fall other than rot at the bottom.
A GoFundMe was set up to help the family.
