HARVEY COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) - Park visitors reported finding a body near the shores of a dry lake bed at Harvey County East Park around 12:45 Sunday afternoon.

As of Sunday night, investigators have not officially identified the person nor the cause of death, but Harvey County Sheriff Chad Gay said at the scene they believe the body had been there for a few days.

Even after the Sheriff's Office had cleared the scene, roads near where the body was found - remained blocked off.

We spoke with camper Dustin Morris at the campground at East Park, who said he was shocked to learn the news.

"You wouldn't expect this," Morris said. "Honestly, if the lakes dry. I don't see why somebody would do this."

Morris said that campers have been in contact with the sheriff's office, and adds he expects a thorough investigation from law enforcement.

"They're gonna figure everything out as quick as they can. You know, I trust them."

Sheriff Gay said that he expects to have more information on the investigation Monday.
