BUTLER COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE)- “But violence is just coming more and more,” said Dianne Blake, a 15-year resident of the neighborhood where a recent officer-involved shooting took place.

Dianne Blake describes the scene of an officer involved shooting and police chase that happened Tuesday around 3 p.m. The stolen truck the suspect was initially driving was parked behind Dianne’s home.

“My husband went to the back, seen the truck. We thought it was the construction workers going after him. Stop there. We did not see the guy jump out. Must have already jumped and got the rental truck when he looked over to the corner. That's when he ran into Barbara and Dave's house,” said Blake.

A 21-year-old Wichita resident, Blake Patterson has been named as the suspect involved. Two stolen vehicles also played a role in this situation, a white pick up truck and a large white moving truck that was driven into a local home’s porch after Patterson was tased and then shot, leaving behind quite a bit of damage.

“I mean, there was a lot of police officers, but they said with us being Sedgwick, and Butler. You just get them all,” said Blake.

The KBI has since taken over the investigation and says Patterson was taken to a Wichita hospital with critical injuries, but he is still in stable condition. Neighbors are still shocked at this scary situation happening in a usually peaceful neighborhood.

“I just worry. My grandkids aren't here all the time. But we always tell them when they let the dog out, ‘boys lock the doors.’ They don't understand why you got to lock the doors, because you never know,” Blake said.
