MULVANE, Kan. (KAKE) - Three people were injured Wednesday morning in a crash involving a semi on the Kansas Turnpike near Mulvane.

It happened at around 9:30 a.m. in a construction zone on southbound I-35 south of the Kansas Star Casino. The Kansas High Patrol's crash log report states a tractor-trailer drifted into the closed portion of the roadway, hit the barrier wall and then struck a transit van.

Two Wichita men in the van, ages 35 and 39, were taken to Wesley Medical Center, as was the 33-year-old semi driver, the crash log states. All three had suspected serious injuries.

The Kansas Turnpike Authority initially reported two construction workers in the van and a worker outside the van were hurt.

The KTA said shortly after noon that approximately 100 vehicles were stranded between the casino and the crash site. Southbound lanes were reopened about 40 minutes later.
