DODGE CITY, Kan. (KAKE) - Police in southwest Kansas have arrested two people for the death of a 1-year-old girl.

Dodge City officers responded last Wednesday to a local hospital to investigate the child's death. A release from DCPD said officers noticed a significant injury to the baby's head.

"An autopsy was performed in Kansas City, and showed a significant skull fracture and blunt force impact, indicating a likely homicide," Dodge City police said.

On Friday, police located the girl's mother, 19-year-old Rachael Zubiate, and her live-in boyfriend, 21-year-old Andrew Phaengsy, and arrested them. A case was filed with the Ford County attorney's office for alleged first-degree murder and child abuse.

Police identified the child as Aramar Zubiate. She would have turned 2 on September 18.

According to DCPD's release, both parents were arraigned on Monday and remain jailed on $250,000 bond each.
