First day of the Kansas State Fair
HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KAKE) - Today was day one of the Kansas State Fair.
Joshua Engle is enjoying his time at the fair with his children getting ice cream, and making memories.
“I like how my kids like going to the petting zoo, and just the interactions there. It’s just fun to see their faces light up with the animals. And then I also love trying the new fried foods and getting to talk to some of the vendors,” said Engle.
Many people enjoyed the first day of the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson
For some it was their first time at the Kansas State Fair and it got the stamp of approval.
“Well I’m originally from Colorado and my hometown has the Colorado State Fair so I was really excited to compare them but I feel like fair food is always a fun one, just the different shops you get to go to and like, the different things you get to see that way and the rides are another fun thing we’re gonna hit later on,” said Samantha Cisneros, a first time fair goer.
The biggest produce in Kansas is on display, the butter sculpture is still in the carving process, and kids enjoyed the freshly painted splash pad at the center of it all.
Joie Vitkus has been coming to the fair for 15 years, and entering the painting contests for the past 10.
“I’ve won once and it was fabulous but it’s just fun to do it and be a participant and be a part of the whole fair,” said Vitkus.
There is something for everyone at the Kansas State Fair.
“I like all the crazy, fun, scary, exciting rides and they have good food here too,” said Ellie Lahl, a 9 year old fair goer.
