WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - One woman died Monday night after being hit by a car while riding a bike in southeast Wichita, police say.

The incident happened just before 9 p.m. Monday, when officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of South Oliver for a report of a vehicle hitting a bicyclist. Police say 56-year-old Sue Towels was found unconscious and not breathing and was pronounced deceased by EMS on the scene.

The investigation revealed Towels was riding her bicycle southbound on Oliver on the curb lane when she was struck by a green 1997 Pontiac Bonneville driven by a 58-year-old Wichita man who was also traveling southbound on Oliver.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with authorities, police say. An investigation on the crash is ongoing.
