WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Wichita police have identified a 22-year-old man who drowned in a lake on the city's southwest side on Thursday.

Kyler Rutherford, of Wichita, was recovered from the lake near the 2600 block of South West Street just after 8:30 p.m., more than four hours after rescue crews responded to the scene.

Wichita Fire Department crews were called just before 4 p.m. to the report of a submersion at the lake. They met with bystanders and eyewitnesses where the drowning victim was last seen.

Battalion Chief Jose Ocadiz said the man was swimming with others before disappearing in the deep water.

Teams searched for two hours before they switched to recovery operation mode.
