Crime Stoppers: knife wielding suspect robs gas station
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Wichita police are hoping to get who they say is a dangerous man off the streets.
Security video caught the suspect holding a gas station clerk at knife point before robbing him.
The video is shocking. You see a man who seems to be ready to pay for his items suddenly jump over the counter and chase the clerk with a knife.
"It blows my mind to see that," said customer Reggie Watley.
Watley comes to this Phillips 66 gas station at Harry and Rock all the time. We showed him the video.
"The way he's on camera and forced him in the back that's dangerous,” said Watley. "Most of the people who work here is young."
The video shows the clerk run to the back room and try to shut the robber out. After a battle over the door, the man with the knife got in and forced the clerk back to the register where he stole all the cash.
“It definitely shocks the conscious to see the lengths that this criminal is willing to go to,” said spokesperson for Crime Stoppers Officer Kris Gupilan.
Wichita police are still looking for the suspect. The crime happened on May 7th just before 2:00 in the morning. Investigators are asking that you take a close look at the pictures of the man and the motorcycle he left on.
Police and Watley wants the suspect caught.
"This is a quiet neighborhood,” said Watley. “We don't need that crime going on around here."
