WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A 29-year-old Wichita woman has been sentenced to just over 14.5 years in prison for the death of her baby daughter in 2021.

The Sedgwick County district attorney's office said Judge Kevin Smith sentenced Neriah Dilley to 176 months. She pleaded guilty in February to second-degree murder and child abuse.

On October 9, 2021, officers responded to the report of an infant not breathing at a home in the 800 block of South Mission, near Lincoln and Woodlawn. They arrived to find Dilley's daughter, 1-year-old My'onna Townley, in critical condition.

The baby was rushed to a hospital where she later died. Police said the girl’s injuries included “trauma on her body."

A criminal complaint alleged that Dilley tortured or cruelly beat her daughter. She told police she put her hands over the girl's mouth because she was overwhelmed by her crying and that she called 911 after My'onna had trouble breathing.
