WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Two people are now in custody and police are searching for a third in connection with a shooting inside a Wichita nightclub that left 11 people injured last week.

Wichita police said Monday that 27-year-old John Houze had been arrested as a suspect in the shooting at City Nightz in Old Town on July 2. Houze has been charged with six counts of aggravated assault with the use of a deadly weapon, one count of criminal possession of a weapon by a felon, and one count of unlawful discharge of a firearm. Bond has been set at $500,000 and he will next appear in court at 10:30 a.m. on July 24, 2023.

On Friday, police arrested 19-year-old Ameir King-Ingram on two counts of aggravated battery and one count of criminal possession of a firearm by a felon. King-Ingram has been charged with one count of aggravated battery: recklessly causing bodily harm or disfigurement, five counts of aggravated assault with the use of a deadly weapon, three counts of criminal possession of a weapon by a felon, and one count of unlawful discharge of a firearm. Bond has been set at $500,000 and he will next appear in court at 10:30 a.m. on July 24, 2023.

Nine people suffered gunshot wounds and two others were trampled in the chaos that followed the 1 a.m. shooting. No one died.

A St. Louis-area man was arrested July 3, but prosecutors later determined he fired his gun acting in self-defense after shots were fired by two other men at the club.

The gunshot victims — seven men and two women — ranged in age from 22 to 34, police said. The two people trampled were a 30-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Houze is on parole for drug possession, fleeing law enforcement and criminal possession of a firearm. He also has two prior aggravated battery convictions.
