LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. (KAKE) - Authorities say a 16-year-old boy was killed in a workplace accident at a landfill near Kansas City last week.

According to Lee's Summit police, William Hampton died after becoming pinned between a semi and its trailer on Thursday. KCTV reports the landfill, Lee's Summit Resource and Recovery Park, is owned by a private company that employed the teen.

Police responded at around 10:00 that morning to the report of a person injured and found William pinned. He died at a local hospital.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.

“Will had the most beautiful eyes and contagious smile, he lit any room he walked into,” a GoFundMe for William's family says. "He was such a kind and loving soul, anyone who met him loved him. Will had a special relationship with every single kid in our neighborhood, taking time to play with the littles and take them for rides on his mini bike.”
