WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Jimmy Franklin Guinn, who is accused of crashing a stolen pickup truck into another vehicle and killing two people near Derby, has been charged with murder.

The 20-year-old has been charged with:

  • Two counts of first-degree murder.
  • Two counts of second-degree murder.
  • Two counts of attempting to elude law enforcement. 
  • One count of theft of property. 

The crash happened on May 28 just east of Derby. Authorities said a woman offered the suspect a ride from the Andover Dollar General to Towanda. The suspect allegedly stole the truck and headed toward Derby.

The Kansas Highway Patrol attempted to stop the pickup, but the suspect would not stop.

Alyna Elder and Nathaniel Ashworth were on their way to a family celebration in Rose Hill when the suspect, Guinn, crashed head-on into their vehicle at 63rd Street South and 103rd Street East. The couple died at the scene.

Guinn's bond has been set at $500,000 and will next appear in court on June 15.
