North Wichita shooting leaves teen in critical condition

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A north Wichita shooting at a gathering has left a teenager critically injured.
Officers were called to a shooting in the 2400 block of North Market at 9:30 Thursday evening. A 16-year-old boy from Texas was found with several gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Witnesses say that a gathering was taking place at a nearby residence and escalated from a verbal argument to a physical one. At some point during the altercation, someone pulled out a gun and began shooting.

According the to Lieutenant Matt Lang with the Wichita Police Department (WPD) , the shooting happened at approximately 9:40 p.m. in the 2400 block of N. Market Street. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a teenager with critical, but not life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital.

While police are not sure what the specific relationship between the two people, it appears as if the pair was at the same gathering. Police say that while half of the partygoers left the scene prior to their arrival, at least half stayed and attempted to help the shooting victim.
