WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - One person has died following a crash that also injured seven others earlier this week.

Police say that 19-year-old Jonathan McPherson-Pickett, of Wichita, died Thursday after the crash caused him to be hospitalized on Monday.

The crash happened at around noon Monday near Murdock and Washington. Police said an eastbound white Kia lost a tire and skidded into westbound traffic and struck a blue car.

A 35-year-old woman was driving the blue car and had multiple passengers. All of the victims were taken to local hospitals with injuries ranging from critical to minor.

McPherson-Pickett, the front passenger of the white Kia car did not regain consciousness after the impact and was later pronounced deceased by medical staff.

Police say they believe speed was a contributing factor in the accident.

Wichita police say eight people were taken to hospitals following a two-vehicle crash in midtown on Monday.

It happened at around noon near Washington and Murdock. Capt. Ronald Hunt said an eastbound white car may have struck the curb before it lost a tire and skidded into westbound traffic. The white car then hit an oncoming blue car and rolled onto its top.

Hunt said four people from each vehicle were hospitalized, some of whom suffered serious injuries. At least two of them were initially listed in critical condition, but Hunt later said none of the injuries were life-threatening.

No names have been released.

Hunt said at the scene on Monday that he believed no young children were involved. But Wichita police said in an update Tuesday morning that a 6-month-old girl and a 4-year-old girl were in the blue car along with two women, the 35-year-old driver and a 60-year-old passenger.

WPD said an 18-year-old man was driving the white car. He had four passengers: two males, ages 19 and 16, and two females, ages 15 and 18.
