Governor Kelly approves over $65 million to fund medical and mental health care

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has announced grant funding for mental and medical health facilities in Wichita.
The Kansas Office of the Governor said $25 million will go towards a new 50-bed mental hospital with room to expand that will be constructed in Sedgwick County. This will help jails face less overcrowding while inmates wait to testing and treatment. It will also shorten wait times for patients who have not been assigned beds yet and allow them to be closer to loved ones.
Wichita State University and the University of Kansas will receive $15 million to build a new shared health science education center. Around 3,000 students and 200 staff members will be housed in the center offering a cutting edge medical care education.
