City council approves rezoning for Love's Travel Stop in northeast Wichita
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - The Wichita City Council has unanimously approved rezoning a block of land on the northeast side so a Love's Travel Stop can be built there.
The truck stop will be on the northwest corner of 21st Street North and Interstate 135. It will include gas pumps, a convenience store, drive-thru restaurant and overnight parking for RVs.
The company announced in April that Love's Travel Stops would be getting five new locations along the Kansas Turnpike. That news came after the recently completed acquisition of EZ GO from Oklahoma-based Carey Johnson Oil Company.
The acquisition also included six travel stops on Oklahoma turnpikes and 11 convenience stores in Oklahoma and Nebraska.
"We are excited to add locations in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska and welcome nearly 400 new team members to the Love’s Family of Companies,” Shane Wharton, president of Love’s, said last month. “The opportunity to expand into serving commercial and casual customers on the two-state turnpikes supports our strategic priority of pursuing adjacent acquisition opportunities. In addition to being family-owned, we share a similar culture with the seller in that we operate on a customer-centric model focused on an extensive assortment of products, superior customer experience, and inviting environment."
The Kansas Turnpike locations will be near Wellington, Towanda, Matfield Green, Lawrence and Topeka.
