QUENEMO, Kan. (KAKE) - Authorities in eastern Kansas say an 84-year-old man who was conducting a burn in a field has been found dead.

The Osage County Sheriff's Office said crews responded at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to a grass fire off of K-68 near Quenemo. The Hutch Post reports the blaze started out as a prescribed burn but went out of control.

As crews were working to extinguish the fire, they found the body of Leo Williams, of Osage City.

Sheriff Chris Wells said Williams was conducting the burn on another person's property with permission, according to KTKA. No foul play is suspected.

The state fire marshal's office is assisting with the investigation.
